David Barnes D.D.S.

Celebrating 20 Years of Practicing Dentistry in Shelbyville

Dr. David Barnes is a Shelbyville native. He graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1979 and continued to MTSU, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1992. Dr. Barnes received his dental degree from the University Of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1986. At graduation, he was the sole recipient of the Senior Student Award for Clinical Excellence, a designation bestowed by the UT faculty.

After graduation, Dr. Barnes served his country in the United States Navy Dental Corps, where he was an officer. He provided dental care to Navy pilots prior to deployment. It was during his navy service that he fell in love with airplanes and flying, a passion he continues today. He was a clinical advisor and faculty for the University of Mississippi’s School of Dentistry prior to opening his practice in Shelbyville in 1989.

Since going into private practice, Dr. Barnes has earned these distinctions:

Dr. Barnes truly loves Shelbyville and is involved in many local organizations. He is the current chairman of the Shelbyville Airport Authority and a founding contributor of the Child Development Center, a local resource for developmentally disabled children and teenagers. Dr. Barnes believes that being healthy requires regular exercise and is a proud sponsor of local youth athletics, supporting soccer, basketball, football and baseball teams in Bedford County. He is a former chairman of the Boy Scouts annual fundraising campaign.

Dr. Barnes is a past secretary of the Shelbyville Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals and is a charter member of the Shelbyville Historical Preservation committee. He served on the CalSonic advisory committee, assisting in bringing that large corporation to the area.

In further service, Dr. Barnes supports the United States military by flying wounded or otherwise incapacitated soldiers to medical facilities all over the southeast through Veteran’s Airlift Command. He volunteers his time to Tennessee Airlift Hope and Angel Flight; these organizations deliver medically compromised patients, organ transplant patients and desperately needed organs to area hospitals for expedited treatment. He is a first responder for Homeland Security, and is at the ready to fly healthcare workers and medical supplies to disaster areas when requested.

Dr. Pam Chamberland

Dr. Chamberland is a native of Bristol, Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1993. Following her family’s move to Tennessee, she chose the University of Tennessee’s College of Dentistry for her dental education. She received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery degree, with honors, in 1997.

After graduation, Dr. Chamberland performed a general practice residency at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Memphis for one year. She met Dr. Barnes as her residency ended and became an associate in his practice during the summer of 1998. She is a resident of Murfreesboro.

Dr. Chamberland is a member of the Tennessee Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She is also a member of the Tennessee Fourth District Dental Society. In 2009, she joined the local chapter of the Seattle Study Club, a national organization that promotes collegial relationships between general and specialty practices.  She is an alumni of the prestigious Peter Dawson functional occlusion curriculum, which provides training to correct the bite problems of all types of patients, including those with TMJ issues such as an inability to open the mouth, popping, clicking and pain.

Dr. Chamberland volunteers her time at the Interfaith Dental Clinic in Nashville, Tennessee. She also supports the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure, held each year to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.

She enjoys travel, golf and cooking and truly enjoys her family living nearby.
